MANOR, Texas — A 15-year-old boy is in critical condition after being accidentally shot in the head by a family member early Friday morning, police said.

Manor police responded to a home in the 19800 block of Grover Cleveland Way at approximately 3:30 a.m. after receiving reports of a shooting, according to the Manor Police Department.

A preliminary investigation revealed the teen sustained a gunshot wound during an accidental discharge of a firearm by a family member, police said. The victim was transported to Dell Seton Trauma Center, where he remains in critical condition.

The investigation is ongoing. Police did not release details about the circumstances of the shooting or whether any charges are pending.

Police recognized officers who provided life-saving measures at the scene, as well as personnel from Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services and Travis County Emergency Services District 12.

“It is never easy for first responders to deal with traumatic injuries to children,” the department said. “Our thoughts are with the family during this difficult time.”
