TYLER, TEXAS – UT Tyler women’s basketball picked up their sixth home win of 2026 after taking down Oklahoma Christian 71-67 inside the HPC on Saturday afternoon.

The Patriots shot 40.4% from the field and 34.6% from deep while forcing the Eagles into 21 total turnovers and outscoring them 18-4 in fastbreak points on the afternoon.

The Patriots got off to a sluggish start, making just two three pointers over the first 5:27 of the game as they fell behind early. The Patriots got rolling with an 8-0 run behind eight points combined from both Mariah Neal and Hayley Cumming as they took a 14-9 lead. The Eagles battled back, going on a 9-1 run to take an 18-15 lead before a Lilli Hakkarainen jumper at the buzzer cut the deficit to one.

The Patriots sluggish start didn’t carry over into the second, where they started the period on a 13-4 run as Leila Davis scored six points in the stretch to help build a 30-22 lead with 4:24 left. Just as they did in the first quarter, the Eagles battled back on an 8-2 run, cutting the lead to 32-30 at halftime.

UT Tyler expanded the lead in a high scoring third quarter, with the Patriots outscoring the Eagles 18-14. Davis scored seven points to lead the Patriots in the frame, with four other Patriots scoring at least two as they build up a six point lead heading into the final quarter.

A 5-0 run to begin the fourth cut the lead to one, and after a Patriots layup and an Eagles three pointer, the game was tied with 7:46 to play. The two teams traded blows before a 4-0 run from the Eagles gave them a slim one point lead with 4:10 remaining.

The Patriots needed a pair of big shots, and they got them as KK Bass and Mariah Neal each buried a three pointer to put the Patriots up three around an Eagles layup. The defense put the clamps down, holding Oklahoma Christian to just two made baskets in the final four minutes while the Patriots made a trio of free throws in the final 10 seconds to put the game on ice and ensure the Patriots win.

Leila Davis went for 21 points on 6-for-11 shooting while adding a three pointer and eight free throws. She chipped in four rebounds, five assists, one block, and one steal.

Mariah Neal added 13 points while knocking down three three pointers, adding in four rebounds and three steals. Hayley Cumming scored 10 points with two three pointers, adding in three boards, one block, and one steal.
