LUBBOCK, Texas – The UNT track and field program enjoyed a strong outing over the weekend at the Jarvis Scott Invite at Texas Tech on Friday and Saturday, coming back to Denton with several new program records and top finishes against some of the best competition in the country.

After entering the meet, which served as the final tuneup for the American Conference Indoor Championships at the end of the month, with 10 new program records set this indoor season, UNT broke three more, as junior Aariyana Williams broke a six-year-old record in the women’s 200 with a 23.60 and ran the anchor leg of the women’s 4×400 relay that broke its own record from just a month ago along with Lailah Hudson, Kendahl Tucker and C’Nai Childress to finish third. Sophomore Oluwatimilehim Williams broke his own record – also set earlier this winter – in the men’s shot put with a throw of 17.71 meters to place fifth in a loaded field.

While that was all the new program records set over the weekend, there were several other notable finishes, highlighted by junior Chase Lehr’s impressive win in the men’s 800 meters in 1:49.15, which marked the team’s only championship of the weekend. The Mean Green had a strong showing in the distance events, as junior Connor Bartek took second in the men’s 3,000 meters in a personal-best time of 8:26.38. Junior Ximena Lopez de Escalera made her season debut in the women’s 3,000 and took third with a PR of 10:13.49. Senior London Maxwell finished sixth in the women’s mile, and Tucker and Trezeguet Taylor finished seventh and 11th, respectively, in the 200 while clocking personal bests.

Taylor added a third-place finish in Friday night’s 60-meter final, while Aariyana Williams and Tucker finished fourth and seventh, respectively, in the women’s 400.

In the jumps, senior Alliyah McNeil finished fourth, but was the second-best collegian in the women’s long jump with a leap of 6.22 meters.

The Mean Green will travel to Birmingham, Alabama, for the American Indoor Championships on Feb. 27-28, before beginning the outdoor season on March 20-21, at TCU in Fort Worth.
