San Marcos, TXÂ – Niagara baseball dropped the second game of the to Texas State 11-3 Saturday night in non-conference action.
The Purple Eagles fell to 0-2, while the Bobcats improved to 2-0.
The first two innings of the game were scoreless, with Niagara starter Nate Bennett striking out two batters, while Nick Cote singled in the second to give the Purple Eagles their first hit of the contest.
Niagara got on the board first in the top of the third when Cote recorded his second single of the night to bring home Noah Konings.
The Bobcats answered quickly, knotting up the contest at one in the bottom of the inning with a fly out double play that plated a run.
The fourth inning saw Bennett strike out the side, while Jacob Brooks recorded his first hit of the season.Â
The Purple Eagles regained the lead in the top of the fifth with an RBI double off the bat of Rees Kozar to plate Curtis McKay.
Andrew Damiani came in relief for Bennett to start the sixth inning, throwing a scoreless inning with two strikeouts. Damiani came back in the seventh striking out two more batters.
Texas State tied the game up once again in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI single.
The eighth inning saw four Niagara pitchers make an appearance, starting with CJ Hurley. Rece Allensworth got 0.2 innings of work, while Eddie Dolansky and John Ondus wrapped up the inning for the Purple Eagles.
The Bobcats took the lead on a wild pitch and took control of the game in the eighth, plating nine runs.
Jason Green added the Purple Eagles first home run of the season in the top of the ninth to make it an 11-3 game.
