ARLINGTON, Texas — Arkansas baseball mounted a comeback, but the Hogs couldn’t quite get over the hump.

The No. 5 Razorbacks (1-1) fell 5-4 to No. 10 TCU in the marquee game of the Shriners College Showdown on Saturday, Feb. 14. The Hogs found themselves in an early hole after TCU struck for two runs in each of the first two innings before rallying in a narrow loss.

Arkansas starter Hunter Dietz walked three batters and hit another in his only two innings of work. TCU center fielder Chase Brunson hit a pair of doubles off the lefty that drove in three runs.

Dietz struck out five.

But Arkansas chipped away at the deficit. Damian Ruiz scored on a passed ball in the third and Cam Kozeal crossed home on a wild pitch in the fifth. Reese Robinett also had an RBI double in the fifth, trimming the deficit to 5-3.

Kuhio Aloy then produced the loudest swing of the night with a 445-foot home run to left field in the top of the seventh. The blast featured a 110 mph exit velocity, and the Horned Frogs’ lead was down to 5-4.

But that was all for the Arkansas offense, with TCU reliever Noah Franco recording a nine-out save.

Junior righty Tate McGuire was the best pitcher on the night and kept Arkansas within striking distance. He entered the game in the bottom of the fourth with runners on the corners and no outs, but McGuire kept TCU off the scoreboard. He went on to pitch five innings without allowing a base runner.
