CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Gov. Greg Abbott made a special stop in Goliad on Tuesday to honor Live Oak County Sheriff Larry Busby, who is celebrating 44 years of service in law enforcement.
Busby is the longest-serving active sheriff in Texas and the second-longest in the state’s history. Abbott was joined by members of the Coastal Bend Peace Officers Association, Operation Lone Star Task Force, and Goliad County Sheriff Roy Boyd for the recognition ceremony.
“A man on a mission to make history — the longest-serving sheriff in the history of Texas. Not easy to do,” Abbott said. “Forty years — I’m sorry, 44 years — which is just stunning and astonishing. It’s a demonstration of perseverance, persistence, and really, passion. You have to have that ongoing passion to stay in one job that long, and Sheriff Busby definitely has that.”
The event also recognized other local officers involved in Operation Lone Star, a statewide initiative supporting law enforcement agencies working to keep Texas communities safe.
Busby reflected on his decades-long career and said he continues to serve because of his deep commitment to the people of Live Oak County.
