EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — A man was arrested after a robbery and shooting at a home in Fabens.
Deputies arrested 22-year-old Ruben David Ramirez.
On January 28, at approximately 4:47 a.m., deputies with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of an aggravated assault at a residence in the 1000 block of Fargrove.
Deputies found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen. The victim was transported to a local hospital.
Preliminary investigation revealed that multiple people forcibly entered the home, physically assaulted the victim, discharged a firearm, and stole approximately $800 before fleeing the scene.
Detectives identified Ramirez as a suspect in the aggravated robbery.
On February 6, the Major Crimes Unit secured two warrants for Aggravated Robbery against Ramirez.
On February 11, the U.S. Marshals Service located and apprehended Ramirez in the 10500 block of Monte Alto on a federal warrant for Felon in Possession of a Firearm, in addition to the two Aggravated Robbery warrants issued by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.
Ramirez was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility with no bond.
Ramirez had previously been arrested on February 3 by deputies assigned to the Sheriff’s Office Gang and Narcotics Unit for Evading Arrest or Detention and Possession of a Controlled Substance PG 1 (≥4g {<}200g).
He was later released on bond.
Further investigation also determined that Ramirez was present inside a vehicle during a shooting in Fabens on January 29.
After that incident, Ramirez fled the scene on foot and declined to provide a statement to investigators regarding the homicide investigation.
