ARLINGTON, Texas – The Arkansas baseball team blew a late lead against Texas Tech on Sunday, but got back and defeated the Red Raiders in 11 innings in Arlington, Texas, on Sunday.
Junior right-hander Colin Fisher got the start on the mound and put in an electric showing. He finished the game with eight strikeouts to just two walks and allowed just one hit across five innings of work.
Fisher threw 82 total pitches, 56 of which were strikes. He issued first-pitch strikes to 12 of the 18 batters he faced.
The Diamond Hogs went scoreless in the first two innings, as Red Raiders righty Connor Mohan held the bats down until a groundout from Maika Niu scored Damian Ruiz.
Junior catcher Ryder Helfrick tacked on two more as he reached on a throwing error with the bases loaded, and TJ Pompey roped a double down the left field line in the fifth to give the Hogs a four-run cushion as Fisher finished his outing.
Texas Tech got all of its runs from the eighth and ninth innings. It scored the first on a sacrifice fly to right field, and tacked on four more in the top of the ninth off a bases-loaded walk, hit by pitch and a single that scored two.
Arkansas responded in the bottom of the frame with a 409-foot home run from Cam Kozeal. Steele Eaves worked a scoreless 10th and 11th inning, and Maika Niu hit a sacrifice fly to left field that scored Damian Ruiz in the bottom of the 11th to end the game.
Arkansas will stay in Arlington for one more night and will face Tarleton State on Monday afternoon. The game will stream on FloSports.
