The makers of the iconic Shiner Bock announced the release of Shiner Texas Legend Straight Rye Whiskey, available exclusively at the K. Spoetzl Brewery & Distillery.
Originating from the distillery’s first rye distillation in December 2023, Texas Legend Straight Rye Whiskey is drawn from a selection of just three barrels and showcases the bold, spice-forward character of rye. The release marks a new chapter for the brewery after more than a century of Texas brewing heritage.
“This release represents a defining moment for Shiner as we continue to evolve beyond brewing and establish our place in Texas whiskey,” Tom Fiorenzi, Director of Brewery and Distillery Operations, said in a news release. “Bottling whiskey from our first rye distillation reflects the long-term vision we have for the distillery and the standards we’ve set from day one.”
Crafted from a sweet mash of malted rye, yellow dent corn, and two-row barley, Texas Legend Straight Rye is double copper pot distilled and aged in heavy toast, level 1 char barrels in a single-story open-air warehouse. Selected from just three barrels of Shiner’s first rye distillation, it is bottled at cask strength of 125.4 proof (62.7% ABV) and non-chill filtered to preserve its full character and complexity.
The result is a full-bodied rye with layered notes of cinnamon, clove and citrus, balanced by hints of toffee, vanilla and warm spice. Priced at $199, this limited release reflects both the patience behind its production and Shiner’s continued expansion into Texas whiskey.
Texas Legend Straight Rye Whiskey bottles are available only at the K. Spoetzl Brewery & Distillery.
