A person died in an early morning crash Monday after their vehicle collided with another while driving the wrong way on a Dallas tollway, Department of Public Safety officials said.

Two vehicles collided on the Dallas North Tollway near Royal Lane at 2:10 a.m., according to a news release from DPS.

The driver of a Hyundai Tucson was driving the wrong way by traveling northbound in the southbound lanes. DPS said the Hyundai collided head on with a Land Rover Velar.

The driver and passengers inside the Land Rover were taken to a hospital with serious injuries, DPS said.

The person driving the Hyundai Tucson died at a local hospital.

The tollway was closed for several hours Monday morning but has since reopened.
