On this President’s Day, let’s check out the libraries you can go visit that honor our American Presidents.

Fun fact, only two American Presidents have been born in Texas. Many would assume it would be both George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush. Prepare yourself if you didn’t know this, neither of them were born here in Texas. Let’s start with the man who was actually born here in Texas.

Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum (Austin, Texas)

The only President born in Texas with his Presidential library here is Lyndon Baines Johnson. The library features 45 million pages of historical documents, including the papers of President Johnson and those of his close associates and others. The top floor also has 7/8th’s scale replica of the Oval Office from what it looked like when Johnson was in office. An animatronic LBJ is also on the premises as well. You can find the library on the campus of The University of Texas at Austin.

Dwight D. Eisenhower Only Other Texas Born President

President Eisenhower was born in Dennison, Texas back in 1890. However, he was primarily raised in Abilene, Kansas as a small child. His Presidential library was actually built around his childhood home in Kansas. Technically Eisenhower is a Texan, but his family moved to Kansas when he was two. So no real memories of his Texas roots.

George H.W. Presidential Library and Museum (College Station, Texas)

We go from the University of Texas at Austin with Johnson, to the arch rival Texas A&M in College Station for George H.W. Bush. H.W. was born in Massachusetts. He would move to West Texas in 1948 after graduating from Yale. What’s unique about the George H.W. Bush Library? The textual archives contain more than 44 million pages of personal papers and official documents. Probably the coolest feature is a Union Pacific Railroad car that was dedicated to the former president.

George W. Bush Presidential Library (Dallas, Texas)

While his father was attending Yale, George W. Bush would be born in New Haven, Connecticut. You can find George W. Bush’s library on the campus of Southern Methodist University. Apparently a bidding war took place as to which Texas college would get the George W. Bush Library. Baylor, SMU, the University of Texas System, Texas Tech University, the University of Dallas, and Midland College all tried to get the library on their campus. George W. Bush has the second largest Presidential Library, only President Reagan has a bigger one in California. Probably the most unique feature of the library is that it has it’s own restaurant, Cafe 43. You can find this library on the SMU campus.
