SAN ANTONIO – The YMCA of Greater San Antonio kicked off its 150th anniversary celebration Tuesday at the Thousand Oaks Family YMCA, marking the start of a year-long commemoration honoring the organization’s legacy of community impact.
Bexar County Judge Peter Sakai presented an official county proclamation recognizing the YMCA’s 150 years of service in San Antonio.
The celebration also featured testimonials from YMCA members who shared personal stories about the organization’s impact on their families and personal growth.
“As a mom of four, finding a place where everyone belongs feels like winning the lottery,” said YMCA member Julie Hernandez. “The YMCA didn’t just give my son a team, it gave me a chance to grow, too. This place brings us closer.”
Founded in 1876 in San Antonio, the YMCA of Greater San Antonio has grown to serve thousands of residents annually through youth development programs, wellness initiatives, childcare services, and community outreach efforts.
The anniversary year will highlight not only the organization’s history but also its ongoing commitment to addressing evolving community needs.
