EL PASO, TEXAS (KFOX14/CBS4) — A 20-year-old man was arrested last week after a traffic stop in far East El Paso ended with a crash and a brief foot chase.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office arrested and charged Ian David Borders for evading arrest or detention with a vehicle.
According to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, on Feb. 13 at about 8:38 p.m., deputies initiated a traffic stop on a gray Toyota Corolla in the 13100 block of Eastlake Boulevard.
Police said the vehicle initially stopped, and both the driver and passenger were asked to get out of the vehicle.
However, when the passenger stepped out, the driver, identified as Borders, fled at a high rate of speed.
The driver then lost control and crashed near Eastlake Boulevard and Emerald Park Drive, authorities said.
Police said that is when Borders got out and tried to run, but deputies took him into custody after a brief foot pursuit without further incident.

Borders was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on a charge of evading arrest or detention with a vehicle, which carries no bond, and two counts of collision involving damage, each with a bond set at $5,000.
“Evading law enforcement only escalates a situation and puts our community at risk,” Sheriff Oscar Ugarte said. “When deputies conduct a lawful stop, compliance is the safest option. Choosing to flee will only result in more serious consequences.”
