WFAA-TV (Channel 8) is debuting its new-look Daybreak show next week.
Matt Howerton and Dia Wall will take over as anchors of the 5-7 a.m. weekday broadcast on Feb. 23. They’ll join meteorologists Greg Fields and Mariel Ruiz and traffic anchor Erica Lopez, who joined WFAA in January.
Howerton and Wall are North Texas natives who grew up watching WFAA. Howerton joined the station in 2017 and has worked there as a general assignment reporter. Wall joined in 2024 and has been an anchor and reporter. The pair were announced as the next Daybreak anchors last month.
“I’ve spent many years telling the stories of North Texans, and I’m incredibly excited to now be a part of their mornings on Daybreak,” Howerton said in a news release. “Being at the anchor desk is truly a dream come true.”

Wall said she is “humbled and grateful to serve this community” and called it “an honor to sit at the anchor desk on this program.”
She and Howerton begin their new roles shortly after the departure of current Daybreak anchor Marc Istook, who is expected to leave the station on Feb. 20 after working there since 2019. His co-anchor, Kara Sewell, recently went on maternity leave. She will co-anchor the station’s midday news and its Daybreak streaming newscast from 7-9 a.m. upon her return, according to a spokesperson for WFAA.
