About 1,100 fentanyl pills among other drugs were seized after El Paso County authorities stopped a suspect allegedly driving a stolen vehicle early Tuesday morning.
Deputies from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office spotted the stolen vehicle traveling east on U.S. 24 near Peterson Space Force Base shortly before 3:30 a.m. and found the drugs inside, according to a news release.
They followed the vehicle, a GMC Acadia, into Colorado Springs near the intersection of Boulder Street and Union Boulevard and “strategically positioned” their patrol vehicles around the Acadia to prevent the suspect from driving off.
The driver exited the car, and deputies say he tried to flee on foot but was apprehended. Two passengers who remained inside the car were also detained.
Deputies found the fentanyl pills, 14 grams of meth, 56.6 grams of ecstasy, 3 grams of heroin, drug paraphernalia associated with narcotics distribution, more than $4,300 in counterfeit currency, according to the release.
The driver, 41-year-old Tasavion Butler, is being held at the El Paso County jail on a $50,000 bond, jail records show.
He faces the following charges:
Unlawful distribution, manufacturing, dispensing or sale of narcotics
Unlawful possesion of a controlled substance
Obstrucing a peace officer
Possessiong of drug paraphernalia
Second-degree motor vehicle theft
Special offender
One of the passengers was also taken into custody for an active misdemeanor warrant, according to the release.
