Smith County firefighters sent to West Texas for potential wildfires

  • February 17, 2026

TYLER, Texas (KLTV) – Four Smith County firefighters will be sent to West Texas to provide assistance in case of potential wildfires, the Smith County Emergency Services District 2 (EDS 2) announced Tuesday.

The government office received a request from the State of Texas to send four of its Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System (TIFMAS) members to Pampa and Borger, Texas, to be ready to assist.

The four firefighters include one engine boss and one dozer boss, Smith County EDS 2 said.

Maintained by the Texas A&M Forest Service, TIFMAS team members provide mutual aid across Texas during large-scale emergencies, such as wildfires, floods or other disasters, by mobilizing local fire resources statewide.

Other agencies readying alongside include Tyler Fire Department, Nacogdoches Fire Department, Texarkana Fire Department and Longview Fire Department.
