Police are investigating after a man fatally stabbed a woman in a south Austin home Saturday morning before taking his own life.
The Austin Police Department said officers responded to a welfare check around 11:30 a.m. at a home located on Windrift Way near West William Cannon Drive. The caller reported that 38-year-old Megan Montgomery had not shown up for work.
According to police, officers obtained a key from family members before entering the residence. Inside, they discovered two individuals deceased.
Montgomery was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers also found 47-year-old Samuel Rios deceased inside the home. Both had apparent trauma to their bodies, police said.
Investigators believe Rios fatally stabbed Montgomery, before taking his own life.
The case is being investigated as Austin’s eighth homicide of 2026.
