DALLAS — The Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, which houses American Airlines, is the sixth busiest airport in the world, according to Official Airline Guide (OAG).
The airport seated over 51 million passengers in 2025 and has seen a passenger growth rate of 17% since 2019. That year, it ranked 13th in the world, and it is now the second busiest airport in the U.S. behind Atlanta.
OAG said the ranking system is “based on scheduled one-way airline capacity for the year 2025 and compared to 2024 and 2019.” Total domestic and international capacity determines the 10 busiest airports, and only international seats decide the 10 busiest international airports.
American Airlines won the title of dominant carrier for the year, taking up 82% of the total flights from the DFW airport. According to the Airport Suppliers, along with being the headquarters of American Airlines, the DFW airport is “larger than the island of Manhattan, and is the second largest airport by land area in the United States, after Denver International Airport.”
The Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport can directly fly to 273 destinations throughout the world. According to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, the most popular domestic destination is Los Angeles and the top international destination is Mexico.
