El Paso typically ranks really high … usually #1 or #2 … on various “safest cities” lists but we didn’t even crack the top 10 on this one.

Safewise.com just released their list of the top 10 safest cities in Texas and El Paso did not make the cut. You would think bigger cities would, by default, be less safe, right?

Not in Texas. We like to be different I guess; this list was dominated by cities that make up the Houston and DFW areas.

Safewise.com also lists Texas as being one of the states where the overall population is most worried about crime, putting us in 8th place with 55% of Texans being concerned.

That’s only 1 percentage point ahead of our neighbors in New Mexico who took 9th place with 54% of their peeps worried about crime. (They’re in a 3 way tie between NM, New Jersey and Tennessee.)

Who Feels Safest?

As far as the cities where residents “feel” the safest, not one Texas city made that top 10 but our neighbors in New Mexico took the #1 spot as far as the top 10 states where folks feel the least safe. (2 of NM’s sketchier cities are right by El Paso.)
