Storied Mexican club Chivas de Guadalajara is set to travel to North Texas to face FC Dallas in the 2026 Leagues Cup, a person with direct knowledge of the scheduling told The Dallas Morning News.

The full tournament schedule, which pairs MLS and Liga MX clubs, will be officially announced next week.

Querétaro will also visit FCD, the person told The News. The schedule includes a road match for FC Dallas at Toluca, the reigning champion of Mexican soccer.

For the first time in the competition’s history, Liga MX teams will host matches in Mexico as the Leagues Cup enters its fourth season.

This year’s edition will kick off Aug. 4, just weeks after the conclusion of the 2026 World Cup.

The Leagues Cup will run concurrently with the MLS and Liga MX seasons, culminating in a Sept. 6 final.

Chivas remains one of the most popular clubs on both sides of the border, and its identity is central to its appeal: it is the only team in Mexican soccer that fields exclusively Mexican players.

That tradition has made the club a powerful symbol of national pride for Mexicans abroad and for fans of the Rebaño Sagrado (Sacred Flock) at home.

The club has won 12 league titles, including a historic golden era from 1956-65 when it claimed eight championships.

Its most recent league title came in 2017. After several years marked by instability, Chivas has regained its footing this season and currently sits atop Liga MX, having won all six of its matches.

The 2026 Leagues Cup will feature 36 teams, 18 from Liga MX and 18 from MLS.

Phase one will feature 54 matchups, maintaining the format that avoids same‑league pairings.

The champion, runner‑up, and third‑place match winner will earn prize money and berths in the 2027 Concacaf Champions Cup.
