AUSTIN, Texas — RenEarl Bowie was officially sworn in as CapMetro’s new Chief of Police of its Transit Police Department on Monday, surrounded by community leaders, agency staff, and law enforcement colleagues.
Chief Bowie, who has been in law enforcement since 1994, served 28 years with the Texas Department of Public Safety before joining the Transit Police Department in May.
The department became operational in June.

Chief Bowie expressed his vision for the department, stating, “One of the things we’re trying to do is actually be seen. Be seen and be out there. The first key to stopping any crime is actually having some type of police presence.”
In addition to his own swearing-in, Chief Bowie also swore in three new officers to the department.
