Texas baseball will be out to score a fourth consecutive win Tuesday to begin its 2026 schedule when it hosts Lamar at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.

They’ll hand the ball to sophomore righthander Jason Flores against Lamar. Flores turned in a promising freshman campaign, using a hard-riding fastball to accumulate a solid 2.78 ERA in 14 appearances.

Lamar has found itself just on the wrong side of the NCAA Tournament bubble in the last two seasons, accumulating 40-win campaigns that narrowly missed out on regional qualification.

The Cardinals won their season-opening series against Oakland, collecting victories on Friday and Saturday before dropping an extra-inning decision Sunday.

After Lamar tacked on an insurance run in the fifth, Adrian Rodriguez took it upon himself to tie the game. He drove a triple off the wall in right field to plate Ethan Mendoza, then scored on an RBI groundout from Aiden Robbins. After an infield single and a hit-by-pitch, Temo Becerra followed with his own triple — helped by some questionable defense — to give the Longhorns a 6-4 lead.

The explosion wasn’t finished. Jayden Duplantier followed with an infield single to add on a run. And Ashton Larson drove an opposite-field double to bring him around and make it 8-4.

Ethan Walker and Sam Cozart came out of the bullpen to calm the Lamar bats down. Texas drew a walk in the third and the fourth inning but could not turn those opportunities into a run.

Jason Flores was chased from the game after a leadoff walk and three hits conspired against him to give the Cardinals an early 3-0 lead. Ethan Walker took over out of the bullpen to limit the damage.

Texas responded in the bottom half of the frame when Carson Tinney launched his first home run as a Longhorn. Temo Becerra added another run with a groundball single.

Jason Flores looked impressive in the first, topping out at 96 miles per hour on his fastball as he struck out two Cardinals. The Longhorns were set down in order by the sidearming Blayne Fritcher in the bottom half of the frame, too.
