A Frisco ISD third-grade teacher was arrested Tuesday and is accused of invasive visual recording, police said in a statement.

Michael Cheek, a 48-year-old teacher at Billy Gene Phillips Elementary School, was arrested in connection with an ongoing investigation, police said.

Cheek was placed on administrative leave following the allegation and is prohibited from entering Frisco ISD property, a district spokesperson said in a statement.

“We will continue to cooperate fully with law enforcement as the investigation moves forward,” the statement said. “The district takes allegations of this nature very seriously. We know that families entrust us with their children every day, and any violation of that trust is unacceptable.”

Frisco ISD and Phillips counselors and campus administrators are available to support students as needed, the statement said.

Families with concerns about their children can contact the campus directly, though investigative inquiries should be directed to police.

“The district will continue to support Phillips Elementary during this transition to ensure instruction continues as normally as possible while a new teacher is put in place,” the statement said.

Police said they won’t release further details while the investigation is active.

Frisco police ask anyone with information regarding the case to contact the department at (972) 292-6010. Anonymous tips can also be submitted by texting “FRISCOPD” and the tip to 847411.

Cheek’s arrest follows the indictment of another Collin County educator who was accused of recording students in the locker room.

William “Caleb” Elliott, a former Celina ISD middle school teacher, was indicted on four charges, including possession of child pornography and two counts of sexual performance of a child.

He was also charged with invasive visual recording in a bathroom or dressing room. He was initially arrested last October.
