The booming economy in Montgomery County north of Houston is resulting in lots of new jobs, and the same is true of new pipeline construction project have been getting underway.

County Judge Mark Keough says the county has a tradition of keeping a close eye on infrastructure so that it doesn’t interfere with economic growth, and that includes oil and gas pipelines as well as water lines.

“So far so good, we have managed to get them to put their pipelines and their pump stations in safe areas,” he says.

But he says the county is insistent on safety, even though it has little jurisdiction over oil and gas pipelines.

“The key for me is it must be safe infrastructure, and it doesn’t hinder the growth of development that we are doing right now.”
