LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – A critical fire weather threat will develop across the South Plains once again with dangerous wind conditions across the region Wednesday afternoon.
KCBD(KCBD)
Winds will increase dramatically through the afternoon, with the strongest gusts expected between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. Wednesday, particularly across the western South Plains. Wind speeds could reach 30 to 39 mph, creating conditions favorable for rapid wildfire spread and significant blowing dust.
KCBD(KCBD)
Similarly to Tuesday the combination of strong winds and very dry air will create a critical fire weather environment. Any fires that develop Wednesday could spread rapidly.
KCBD(KCBD)
Conditions will remain breezy and warm Thursday and Friday before a cooling trend arrives over the weekend. Thursday also carries elevated to potentially near-critical fire weather concerns as conditions remain dry and windy.
KCBD(KCBD)
Residents are urged to avoid any outdoor burning of open sparks and flames.
