PLANO, Ill. — Plano City Hall says Savion Energy has submitted its official request to operate a 250-megawatt solar farm on several properties north of the city.

Plano Mayor Mike Rennels says the next step is an internal review of the documents by City Hall ahead of any public hearings. City staff are working on a timeline for those hearings.

The city plans to host some of the hearings at a larger venue, such as Plano High School, to allow more members of the public to attend and comment.

Savion says that a previous plan to include a data center is no longer in the proposal and that it is now for solar only.

“The Plano Skies team is proud to submit our application to the City of Plano,” said Development Manager Anna Chalupa. “Plano Skies is a community-driven project shaped directly by public feedback. Through three public input sessions, conversations with city officials, and refined site engineering, Plano Skies reflects years of engagement with local stakeholders to respect the community’s needs and priorities. Plano Skies Solar Project will provide lasting economic benefits for years to come.”

Savion has promoted the project as bringing jobs and tax revenue to the community, but many neighbors have expressed opposition, citing concerns about potential water pollution and impacts to the rural landscape.
