SPID Pediatric Center offers walk-ins, immunizations, testing, and care for underserved communities in South Texas.
TAFT, Texas — A new pediatric care center has opened in Taft, providing local families with easier access to quality healthcare.
Catherine Morales, a pediatric nurse practitioner at SPID Pediatric Center, said the clinic reduces travel time for families.
“We offer immunizations, walk-ins, sick visits, well visits, newborn screenings, and testing,” Morales said. “Families don’t have to make long drives for care.”
Teresa Powell, the practice administrator, said the center has been part of the community’s healthcare network since 1978, with the Taft location marking its seventh site.
“It allows us to see local communities who might not have transportation to bigger cities,” Powell said. “We welcome walk-ins if your child is sick.”
The clinic aims to improve holistic care and outcomes, particularly for underserved populations. The center is taking new patients from ages 0-21 and it’s located at 1210 Gregory Street Suite 2.Â
Morales added,”It’s very important because it removes barriers of location and improves overall care for children.”
South Padre Island Pediatrics is affiliated with Driscoll Children’s Hospital and accepts a variety of insurance plans. The Taft center is open Monday through Friday, with extended hours at some locations, and select offices open on Saturdays.
“We have several providers who have been with the organization for many years,” Powell said. “We’re happy to serve and support the community.”
