Shun Thomas was sworn in as Plano City Council’s newest member Feb. 9.

What you need to know

Council unanimously voted to canvass election results from the Jan. 31 special election, in which Thomas defeated Colleen Aguilar-Epstein in a race for the Place 7 council seat.

Thomas replaces former Place 7 council member Julie Holmer, who announced her resignation last November to pursue a seat on the Collin County Commissioners Court.

“The decisions made in local government truly affect people’s lives, making this work incredibly rewarding. I want to express my gratitude to everyone who provided such strong support during my time on council,” Holmer said. “I’m so proud of [Thomas]. I know your experience, your history, your love for Plano and all that you’ve given already to our community. It’s going to serve the city so well, and you’re going to be an excellent councilwoman.”

The Place 7 seat will be back up for election in May 2027.

One more thing
