A new study suggests certain songs really can push drivers to speed -and some of the biggest hits on your playlist are at the top of the list.
Texas Drivers and the 120 BPM Speed Effect
Research shows that music over 120 beats per minute can encourage drivers to go faster, make sudden lane changes, and take more risks behind the wheel. In fact, one study found that music may play a role in about a quarter of traffic accidents. In a state like Texas- where long highways and open roads practically beg you to hit the gas- that matters.
The Study Behind the Songs That Trigger Speeding
Researchers with HelloMillions analyzed Spotify’s 100 most-streamed songs to figure out which tracks are most likely to encourage speeding.
They scored each song based on beats per minute (BPM), energy, danceability, volume, spoken content and lyrics The result? A ranked list of the songs most likely to get drivers pressing down on the accelerator.

Here are the 10 songs most likely to lead to speeding, according to the study:

Coming in at no. 1 is Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” topping the list at 171 BPM, building intensity in a way that practically dares you not to speed.

Texas roads are built different, add in a high-energy song with pounding drums and adrenaline-heavy lyrics, and it’s a recipe for an accidental speeding ticket.
