After an unbearably dry weather pattern, Houston is FINALLY going to see some strong rain chances this weekend.

Houston has gone nearly a whole month with a little more than a few raindrops. October also has broken records for the warmest temperatures compared to previous years, Space City Weather notes. Even last weekend’s showers weren’t enough to provide relief to the ongoing drought. So, this weekend’s weather change is something to pay close attention to.

Much of this week’s weather has been pretty pleasant. However, as Hearst Meteorologist Justin Ballard reports, “If you were hoping for lasting cooler weather, the news is not great. Southeasterly winds return to Houston by Thursday and could lead to our highest rain chances all month.”

By Friday, we should expect better potential for showers and thunderstorms as well as our next cold front. The National Weather Service reports a 50 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms amid an otherwise sunny Friday. It’ll follow Texas’ familiar weather dance, as clouds and showers are expected to take over by the late afternoon and last into the evening and through the overnight hours Saturday.

Rain chances lower slightly Saturday night, but we won’t see a major difference until Sunday. The  NWS reports a 40 percent chance on Sunday mainly before the late afternoon. In other words, the rainy pattern may stick with us, but lower chances than on Saturday. By Sunday evening, we’ll have more cloudy conditions, bringing a smaller chance of rain as we start the next work week.

The weather details as we start Monday seem cloudy (pun intended), but Space City Weather most assuredly predicts drier and colder air brought by an even stronger front. So, if you’ve been patiently waiting for the cooler weather, just hang in there a little more.
