AUSTIN, Texas — A shooting at the Gus Garcia Recreation Center early Sunday morning left one man dead and another injured, according to the Austin Police Department.

Officers responded to the scene at 1201 E. Rundberg Lane at approximately 12:43 a.m., where they found Jamal Elijah, a 32-year-old Black male, with apparent gunshot wounds. Despite life-saving efforts, Elijah was pronounced dead at 1:07 a.m. A second male victim was transported to a local hospital and is in stable condition.

Homicide detectives and crime scene specialists are investigating the incident, which marks Austin’s ninth homicide of 2026. The investigation revealed that Elijah was with friends at the recreation center when he was confronted by a group of suspects who shot him.

The Austin Police Department has released surveillance video on their YouTube channel showing people of interest in the case. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the Austin Police at 512-974-TIPS. A reward of up to $1,000 may be available for information leading to an arrest.
