An underrated Texas beach town is set to get a fresh upgrade at one of its H-E-B stores. The San Antonio-based grocery chain is planning a nearly $200,000 renovation at the H-E-B Plus! in Corpus Christi, according to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
The popular coastal store is located at 1145 Waldron Road, right along the John F. Kennedy Memorial Causeway. This 3,280-foot-long bridge connects the mainland (Flour Bluff) to North Padre Island over the Laguna Madre in Corpus Christi, which was named as one of the most “underrated” in the South by Travel + Leisure.
H-E-B aims to implement a minor interior remodel, according to the TDLR filing published on Friday, February 13. Renovations are slated to start on March 16 and are expected to finish on June 1. It’s estimated to cost $185,000.
MySA asked the company for more details on the renovations. However, state records suggest the work may focus on the curbside area, as the TDLR project is listed as “Corpus Christi 18 Curbside Expansion.”
Many customers have raved about the store’s location on Google reviews, calling it a “great place to pick up your last-minute beach items.”
“Love going to this location. It’s HUGE. Sadly, we don’t live in town anymore, but stop by every time we hit the beach,” Jay Hackett wrote in a Google review two months ago.
“They are so close to North Padre Island and have everything you need for the beach,” Lisa Raulston wrote five months ago.
H-E-B has several plans in place to upgrade stores across Texas. One of the upgrades includes a $250,000 interior remodel at the Boerne location off Interstate 10 located at 420 W. Bandera Road, Boerne, TX 78006, according to a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing. Another is a nearly $4.6 million upgrade at the Weslaco H-E-B store.
