Today’s Big Stories

1. San Marcos City Council rejects data center land plan

The San Marcos City Council rejected a plan that would have rezoned almost 200 acres of land partially in the city for use as a data center, in a reversal of their decision from January.

Hundreds of people packed San Marcos City Hall as the council discussed the project, initially proposed in March 2025. Many were protesters against the proposed data center, though at least one member of the Laborers’ International Union of North America, Local 1095 (LiUNA) spoke out to support the project.

2. Unruly passenger prompts plane’s return to Houston airport just after takeoff

A flight returned to a Houston airport just after takeoff early Wednesday because of an unruly passenger, authorities said.

There were reports that a male passenger on Flight 2557 from Houston’s Hobby Airport to Atlanta had tried to break into the cockpit, but that wasn’t the case, Delta Air Lines said in a statement. The passenger did exhibit “unruly and unlawful behavior toward other customers” and was met by police after the flight returned to the airport, it said.

3. Texas GOP U.S. Senate candidates are still contending for Trump’s support

The candidates in the running for the Republican U.S. Senate primary hope to win the seat, but also want to win President Donald Trump’s endorsement.

Incumbent Sen. John Cornyn’s bid for reelection is shaped by his alignment with Trump. Cornyn, who is running for a fourth term, has been serving in Congress for over 23 years. He’s expressed skepticism of the president; however, he backed him for his reelection in 2024. In an interview with Capital Tonight, he admitted he’s talked with the president’s team about an endorsement.
