Thunder fans predicted a close match-up against the Houston Rockets, and that’s exactly what they got for the start of season 17.

OKC beat the Houston Rockets 125 to 124 in a double overtime match.

“I just like watching them,” said 8-year-old Lincoln Dabney.

Heading into the season, Thunder fans told News 9 that they are hopeful the Thunder players can defend their championship title.

“I think we’ll do well with the coach and the team, and they gel so well together,” said fan Pamela Williams. “They’re just committed to each other and the leadership, it always starts at the top and shows in the guys.”

Garry Jennings has been a season ticket holder for the last 16 seasons and he shared that he’s feeling emotional about the ring and banner ceremony.

“I was a complete mess after we won the championship. I know we’re going to probably cry together because the emotions are just going to be running,” Jennings said of his friends.

Jose Sanchez, another Thunder fan, said holding a championship title means a lot to him.

“It means a lot to the city because I was born here and raised. Everybody thinks we’re just a small little town and stuff like that, but we’re really a big city. We’re actually growing and I’m actually very proud of that,” Sanchez explained.
