Porter Airlines is further expanding its North American network with new routes and airport changes.

The Canadian carrier recently announced additions that include a fresh destination in Texas, and an upgraded Chicago presence.

The highlights feature year-round service to Austin, Texas, and a shift in Chicago operations to the busier O’Hare International Airport.

In a domestic connectivity boost, it will also add a new seasonal link between Ottawa and Deer Lake, Newfoundland.

New Nonstop to Austin from Toronto

Starting May 21, 2026, Porter will launch year-round flights between Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) and Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS). These flights will operate five times per week using modern Embraer E195-E2 aircraft.

This marks Porter’s first entry into Texas and boosts international options at AUS. Austin airport leaders see it as a major step forward.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Porter Airlines as a new partner at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport,” said Ghizlane Badawi, CEO of AUS.

“Expanding international connectivity is a key priority for AUS, and we’re delighted to welcome this new nonstop service to Toronto, which will provide our travelers with more convenient options to connect for business, leisure, and beyond.”

The route opens easier access between the vibrant Texas capital—known for its tech scene, live music, and outdoor activities—and Canada’s largest city.

Chicago Service Moves to O’Hare

Porter is also upgrading its long-standing Chicago service. Effective September 1, 2026, flights from Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ) will relocate from Chicago Midway (MDW) to O’Hare International Airport (ORD), the city’s main hub.

Frequency will increase to three daily departures, using Dash 8-400 aircraft. Porter has connected Toronto City to Chicago since 2008, and this change brings big benefits.

Passengers gain access to O’Hare’s extensive connections, including future itineraries with partner airlines like American Airlines via codeshare. The move aligns with the upcoming launch of U.S. CBP Preclearance at Billy Bishop, allowing smoother U.S. entry for outbound travelers.

Chicago officials expressed enthusiasm for the partnership.

“On behalf of Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, we welcome Porter Airlines to the busiest airport in the United States, the nation’s best-connected airport, and a rapidly growing hub for American Airlines, Porter’s new codeshare partner,” said Michael McMurray, commissioner of the Chicago Department of Aviation.

“We look forward to years of strong service from Porter, further strengthening the connection between two of North America’s greatest cities.”

Seasonal Boost for Ottawa and Deer Lake

On the domestic front, Porter introduces seasonal service between Ottawa (YOW) and Deer Lake (YDF) starting June 10, 2026. Flights will run five times weekly during the season, complementing existing routes from Toronto Pearson and Halifax.

This addition improves access for western Newfoundland residents and visitors. It supports tourism, business, and community travel in the region.

“Expanding access to the nation’s capital supports our community, businesses, government travellers, and the tourism sector,” said Tammy Priddle, president and CEO of Deer Lake Regional Airport Authority. “Porter Airlines continues to demonstrate confidence in our market.”Ottawa airport leaders echoed the positive impact.

“Porter Airlines’ new nonstop service between Ottawa and Deer Lake is another strong vote of confidence in YOW and in our region,” said Susan Margles, president and CEO of Ottawa International Airport Authority. “With the most nonstop routes from Ottawa, Porter continues to expand meaningful connections.”

Broader Network Growth

These updates follow Porter’s recent summer schedule release, which added nine new routes, increased frequencies, and extended popular winter services.

Andrew Pierce, vice president of network planning and reporting at Porter Airlines, highlighted the strategy. “Porter continues to offer more destinations and flights that complement existing schedules and connect travellers across North America through our hubs,” he said.

“Travellers want more options and, when flying with Porter, they receive an elevated level of care and service that makes getting there enjoyable and something to look forward to.”

Airport partners also praised the growth.

At Toronto Pearson, Kurush Minocher, chief commercial officer, noted: “Porter Airlines’ continued growth at Toronto Pearson is great news for travellers. As Canada’s largest and busiest airport, we remain focused on providing passengers with more choice and greater connectivity.”

The Toronto Port Authority celebrated the Chicago upgrade for enhancing global links and leveraging preclearance for new opportunities.

With these expansions, Porter strengthens its position as a customer-focused airline, while opening fresh travel possibilities across Canada and the U.S.
