1. San Antonio City Council to discuss mayor reprimand in special meeting

Following a complaint over her behavior, the San Antonio City Council will discuss a potential public reprimand for Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones in a special meeting on Monday.

A vote on the censure could come at a later time, if the council wants to take that action. Jones would become the first San Antonio mayor in modern history to receive a censure, which is a penalty-less action, the San Antonio Express-News reported.

2. Texas Tech medical school cancels talk on health, ethical considerations in late-pregnancy abortions

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center canceled a scheduled talk by an OB-GYN who has provided abortion care later in pregnancy after opponents argued the discussion would be illegal on a public university campus, a claim abortion-rights advocates dispute.

3. Students, faculty condemn UNT’s decision to remove anti-ICE art exhibit

The University of North Texas is facing criticism after the removal of an art exhibit centered on immigration and identity.

The exhibit, “Ni de Aquí, Ni de Allá” (“Neither from here, nor from there”) from artist Victor Quiñonez features original paintings, soundscapes and installations, including large paleta (popsicle) sculptures with the words “U.S. Inhumane and Cruelty Enforcement” engraved on the popsicle stick. Inside some of the paletas are guns suspended in “ice” and images of crying children.

Austin-based comics creator writing 60th anniversary milestone Black Panther comic

Black Panther, Marvel’s first Black superhero, is celebrating the 60th anniversary of his comic debut this month — a milestone that perfectly coincides with 100 years of Black History Month. To celebrate, Marvel is releasing a 60th anniversary one-shot issue featuring T’Challa and his legacy, written by Austin-based comics writer Evan Narcisse.
