What can silently accelerate to 140 miles per hour, has a deafening siren and blinding red and blue lights? The answer is Murphy Police Department’s newest squad cars, units T1 and T2.

Police Chief Jeff Gibson and City Manager Aretha Adams presented the new vehicles Thursday, Feb. 12, in front of City Hall.

“The city of Murphy presents the Tesla Y Juniper to be used in law enforcement patrol operations,” Gibson said. “I believe it’s very, very important to note that the city of Murphy is the first in the world … to implement the Tesla Y Juniper into patrol operations.”

The Juniper is a 2026 upgrade of the Model Y, featuring a sleeker design, improved cabin quality and enhanced technology, Tesla has said.
