A former chief counsel to Sen. John Cornyn is President Donald Trump’s pick to be the top federal prosecutor in North Texas.
The White House sent Ryan Raybould’s nomination to be US attorney for the Northern District of Texas to the Senate for consideration on Tuesday. Raybould, a partner at Kirkland & Ellis, didn’t immediately return a request for comment.
Spokespeople for Cornyn (R-Texas) and fellow Texas Sen. Ted Cruz (R) didn’t immediately return requests for comment.
No other nominees for Texas’ three US attorney roles have been named. Picks for Texas’ judicial vacancies also have not yet been announced.
Raybould was earlier a federal prosecutor, including in the Northern District of Texas, and clerked for the district’s current chief judge, Reed O’Connor.
He played professional soccer before beginning his legal career.
