WalletHub ranked 100 U.S. cities using 30 factors, including traffic, gas prices, road quality, costs, and access to repair shops, to find the best for drivers.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Corpus Christi has been ranked the best city in the United States for drivers, according to a new ranking by WalletHub.

The personal finance website compared the 100 largest cities across 30 key indicators of driver-friendliness, including traffic congestion, gas prices, car maintenance costs, parking rates and access to repair shops. Corpus Christi took the top spot overall thanks to low congestion, affordable fuel and ample parking availability.
“Corpus Christi offers one of the easiest driving experiences in the country,” the report said. “Motorists spend less time stuck in traffic and face lower costs at the pump compared with drivers in most other cities.”
Nationally, most Americans still depend on cars to get around. About 87% of daily trips take place in personal vehicles, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. Drivers spend an average of more than 369 hours, about 15 days, on the road every year. WalletHub estimates traffic delays alone cost the average driver about $771 annually in lost time and fuel.
Road quality remains a national concern, with the American Society of Civil Engineers citing hundreds of billions of dollars in needed repairs to highways and bridges. Still, Corpus Christi’s relatively smooth commutes and manageable travel times helped it outperform other cities in the ranking, according to Wallethub.
Raleigh, North Carolina, and Boise, Idaho, rounded out the top three, while Philadelphia, Pennsylvania earned last place, behind New York City and Washington, D.C.
