Amber Glenn of Plano finishes fifth in women’s free skate

  • February 19, 2026

MILAN, Italy (KCBD) – During one of the Winter Olympics’ signature events, Amber Glenn turned in one of the best performances of her career. Two days after the Plano-native fell to 13th place after under-rotating a triple loop, a core requirement in the women’s short program, she found redemption in Thursday’s free skate and left Milano Ice Skating Arena as the No. 5 figure skater in the world.

During her free skate, Glenn posted a 147.52 and lead the field for nearly an hour- until the final group took to the ice. Her performance in Thursday’s final was the third-best of the day, only behind gold medalist Alyssa Liu of the United States (150.20, 226.79 overall) and Koari Sakomoto of Japan (147.67, 224.90).

While she didn’t earn medal, she still managed to climb the leaderboard more than anyone else in the final.

Glenn joins pairs skater Emily Chan of McKinney and ice hockey forward Hannah Bilka of Coppell as DFW athletes competing this winter at the 2026 Milan-Cortina Olympics. Bilka and her teammates reclaimed gold Thursday beating their rivals from Canada 2-1 in overtime.

Boone Niederhofer of San Antonio will make his Olympic debut Saturday as a part of the United States four-man bobsled team.
