Legendary film director Steven Spielberg will appear as a keynote speak at South by Southwest 2026, the festival announced on Thursday.

SXSW released a statement with the news describing the appearance. Spielberg, whose alien-themed thriller “Disclosure Day” is due in theaters in June, will join Sean Fennessy on March 13 for an episode of “The Big Picture.”

The duo will discuss Spielberg’s body of work, the future of his filmmaking and moviegoing, and what went into his latest project. Of course, Spielberg is known for “Jaws”; “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial”; “Jurassic Park”; and more.

SXSW Vice President of Film & TV Claudette Godfrey said, “Childhood dreams do come true. Steven Spielberg is a true pioneer and legend whose seminal work has inspired generations of filmmakers and audiences alike. He’s given us some of cinema’s most formative, unforgettable, and magical experiences, always pushing the boundaries of what’s possible on screen.”

She continued, “He embodies the spirit of cinematic innovation and bold storytelling that defines SXSW, and bringing him to Austin for this special keynote is going to be an extraordinary moment for our community. Making dreams come true is exactly why we do what we do.”

Spielberg is just one of the big names headed to SXSW next month. Others include Vince Gilligan and Rhea Seehorn (of “Breaking Bad”); Larry David and Jeff Schaffer; Bill Lawrence Matt Tarses, Steve Carell, and Danielle Deadwyler (HBO’s “Rooster”); and Jamie Lee Curtis.

SXSW was founded in 1987 and is now a global event series featuring showcases, screenings, exhibitions, shows, and concerts. This year, the festival runs March 12-18 in downtown Austin.
