BOYSRichland upsets No. 3 Denton, gets help to qualify

North Richland Hills Richland needed the impossible to happen on Tuesday night…and it did. The Royals had to upset Denton, No. 3 in the state in Class 5A according to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches, and also needed No. 6 NRH Birdville to defeat Denton Ryan to sneak into the playoffs.

Kole Dortch hit the game winner in overtime as Richland downed Denton 58-56 in the District 6-5A finale while Birdville was handling Ryan 68-55. Ryan had defeated Richland in both district meetings, but with the outcomes on Tuesday the Raiders will now sit home during the playoffs.

Kamari Friend and Erick James poured in 16 points each for the Royals, who lost to Denton by 19 points in their first meeting. C.J. Williams added 10 points for Richland.

No. 7 Summit takes 8-5A title, downs Everman in OT

Mansfield Summit, ranked No. 7 in Class 5A by the TABC, claimed the District 8-5A title as the Jaguars pulled out a 63-55 win in overtime over Everman to close out the regular season on Tuesday.

Jaxon Sneed led Summit (27-6 overall, 13-1 district) with 14 points while Javon Ross added 8. Everman finished at 15-17 overall and 3-11 in district play.

No. 25 Mansfield whips Weatherford, eases into playoffs

No. 25 Mansfield outscored Weatherford by 17 points in the second and third quarters combined as the Tigers secured third place in District 3-6A and a playoff berth with an 86-65 win over the Kangaroos on Tuesday.

Chase Jackson led Mansfield (23-8 overall, 8-4 district) with 15 points while Caden Shaver added 14. Judah Charles had 13 points and Zion Robinson contributed 12 for the Tigers.

Rondy Dunn led Weatherford (19-15, 3-9) with a game-high 25 points. Kamryn McDonald added 18 and Bryce Atkinson tossed in 10 for the Kangaroos.

No. 15 Lake Ridge downs Boswell, awaits playoffs

Mansfield Lake Ridge, No. 15 in Class 6A according to the TABC, got a game-high 16 points from Joseph Ballard as the Eagles downed Fort Worth Boswell 60-44 in a District 3-6A game on Tuesday.

Johnathan Rodriguez added 14 points for Lake Ridge, including 4 three pointers. Roman Dulin had 3 threes and finished with 11 points for the Eagles.

Lake Ridge (23-8 overall, 9-3 district) finishes in second place in district and will represent 3-6A as the second seed in the Class 6A Division I playoffs where they’ll face Haslet Eaton (26-7).

Boswell, which was led by Adrian Ruiz who had 14 points (3 threes), finishes at 5-25 overall and 1-11 in district play.

Southwest takes 8-4A title, downs Benbrook

B.J. Baker put on a commanding performance scoring 20 points in leading the Southwest Runnin’ Raiders to a 65-39 drubbing of Benbrook in the District 8-4A finale on Tuesday.

Southwest (25–7 overall, 12–0 district), No. 14 in TABC’s Class 4A state poll, goes undefeated in district play and will play in the Class 4A Division I playoffs.

Benbrook (20–13, 8–4) has also qualified for the playoff and will face Krum (28-5) in the 4A DII playoffs next week.

Seguin rolls into playoffs, routs Cleburne

Arlington Seguin tuned up for the playoffs with a 91-53 romp over Cleburne in the final District 8-5A game of the season. The Cougars had 5 players in double-digit scoring.

Seguin (23-8 overall, 9-5 district) will face Fort Worth Wyatt (15-15) in the opening round of the Class 5A Division II playoffs. The Cougars hit a whopping 14 three pointers in the game.

Zoderick Green paced the Cougars with 13 points with Amarri Knowlton tossing in 12 and James Moody (3 threes), Armani Green and Osiel Reyes (3 threes) scoring 11 points each. Luke Stewart had 13 for Cleburne (11-22, 2-12) with Parker Philips adding 11.

Alvarado secures third place in 12-4A

Alvarado locked down third place in District 12-4A with a 63-44 Senior Night win over Godley on Tuesday to head to the playoffs on a high note.

Ethan Parker poured in 28 points for the Indians with Preston McDaniel tossing in 10. Alvarado (17-14 overall, 8-4 district) will compete in the Class 4A Division I playoffs and will have a tough draw in the first round, facing No. 3 Dallas Kimball (17-11).

Alvarado head coach Francisco Islas recorded his 200th win at Alvarado last Friday. Godley (15-16, 5-7) will have to face Ferris (14-18, 5-7) later this week to decide the fourth and final playoff berth.

Saginaw slips past Granbury on a 3 at the buzzer

Logan Henry hit a three pointer at the final buzzer to lift Saginaw to a 51-49 win over Granbury in the District 5-5A finale for both teams on Tuesday.

Henry finished with 11 points for Saginaw (14-16 overall, 6-6 district) which pulled into a three-way tie for third place in district. Saginaw, Azle (18-15, 6-6) and Fort Worth Chisholm Trail (12-15, 6-6) will have to decide the final two playoffs slots later this week.

Eugene Roseberry led all scorers with 21 points for the Rough Riders. Miller Schenewark and Kylan Loving (3 threes) had 16 points each to lead Granbury (5-27, 1-11).

Azle edges Fossil Ridge to keep playoff hopes alive

It was a wild night in District 5-5A as Azle traveled to Keller Fossil Ridge and managed to slip past the Panthers 65-60 to create a log jam for the final 2 playoff berths. Saginaw and Fort Worth Chisholm Trail both won on buzzer beaters on the road to create the three-way tie.

The three teams will flip coins on Wednesday and have play-in game on Friday. The winner of the coin flip will be in with the other two teams playing for the final playoff spot.

Azle (18-15 overall, 6-6 district) was led by Jayden Taylor with 25 points (4 threes). Bryce Robinson finished with 14 points for the Hornets with Cason Cook adding 11 (3 threes).

Caiden Veazey was on fire for Fossil Ridge (14-18, 4-8), especially in the first quarter. Veazey hit 5 threes in the opening period and buried 7 three pointers on the night for 21 points.

Jarren Williams poured in 19 points (4 threes) and Nick McKinney added 18 points for the Panthers.

Chisholm Trail hits buzzer beater to stay in race

Fort Worth Chisholm Trail got 19 points from Jesse Mutombo and 13 more from Devion Johnson as the Rangers downed Fort Worth Brewer 46-45 at the buzzer and joined Saginaw and Azle in a three-way tie for third place in District 5-5A.

Diamond Hill-Jarvis closes season with big win

Fort Worth Diamond Hill-Jarvis got 25 points from senior Anthony Elizondo Jr. in a 74-32 rout of Fort Worth Carter-Riverside in the District 8-4A finale for both schools.

Elizondo finishes his high school career with 2,375 points and now holds the records for most points, rebounds and steals in school history. Elijah Hernandez, also a senior, added 15 points for Diamond Hill-Jarvis (11-19 overall, 2-10 district).

Carter-Riverside (0-20, 0-12) was led by Bobby Fields with 10 points and Mason Rawling who tallied 7.

Covenant Classical moves on to regional round

Fort Worth Covenant Classical was boosted by 14 points from Ellis Mitchell and 13 more from Matthew Bates as the Cavaliers raced past Gainesville Lone Star North 79-56 in a TAPPS Class 3A area-round game on Tuesday.

With the win, No. 9 Covenant Classical (20-11) will move on to the regional round where they’ll meet No. 5 Dallas Lakehill Prep (25-5) on Saturday at a time and site to be determined. Jack Liebelt pitched in 10 points for the Cavaliers.
