A late-night fire tore through a Greenspoint townhome, leaving two children dead and two adults injured as Houston firefighters worked to save lives.

HOUSTON — Two young children were killed and two adults were hurt in a tragic townhome fire late Wednesday in the Greenspoint area, according to the Houston Fire Department.

In a statement posted on social media, HFD said firefighters were dispatched at 11:12 p.m. to a home on Casa Grande Drive, where they arrived to find heavy flames. Crews immediately began working to save lives and protect nearby property.

“Tonight, we grieve with a family in the Greenspoint neighborhood after a tragic fire claimed the lives of two young children,” the department said.

HFD said two children were found dead inside the home. Two adults who tried to reach them suffered injuries and were taken to Memorial Hermann in the Texas Medical Center.

The HFD Arson Division, HPD Homicide Division, and the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences are investigating the cause of the fire.

The American Red Cross is assisting residents of nearby units, and HFD said its Critical Incident Stress Management team is providing support to firefighters who responded.
