LUBBOCK, Texas (NEWS RELEASE FROM LUBBOCK ISD) – This morning, Lubbock Police Department received a call from an unknown subject stating there were multiple bombs on the Lubbock High School campus and would detonate in several hours. The caller also stated that he had a firearm and threatened law enforcement who would respond to the campus.
At that time, Lubbock ISD Police immediately responded and were joined by officers from the Lubbock Police and the Texas Department of Public Safety. We placed the campus into our LOCKDOWN protocol due to the possible external threat as we worked to gather more information and prepare for evacuation.
A perimeter was established and a search for a possible shooter or any visible explosive devices was conducted. After we secured the outside perimeter and made sure the reunification site was also secure, we were able to begin the evacuation of students and staff to our Central Office reunification site.
The Lubbock Police Department assisted in the search using Bomb Squad canines to search for any possible explosives on campus. After an extensive search, no explosive devices were found and at this time, no suspect has been located.
The campus is now clear, and if students need to return to campus to pick up any items from inside the building, they will be able to do so after the district announces that all reunifications are completed at the Central Office. At this time, no one is allowed back in the building. We will send messaging when students are able to return to campus to retrieve their belongings.
The investigation continues at this time. If anyone has information, we encourage them to reach out to the Lubbock ISD Police at 806-219-0200. All classes for Lubbock High have been canceled for the rest of the day. Classes continue as normal for the rest of our Lubbock ISD students. You will receive additional information from our sponsors and coaches regarding events this afternoon and evening.
We are proud of our students and staff for their cooperation during this incident and our families for their patience as we work to reunite them. Lubbock High has a student population of nearly 2,000 students, so this process continues and will take several hours to complete.
We also want to thank our law enforcement and media partners for their support during this incident.
If you have any questions, please reach out to our police department at 806-219-0200.
