Sophomore right handed pitcher Sydney Lessentine started in the circle for the Aggies. Through five innings she dealt three strikeouts and allowed three hits.
The Ducks and Aggies were scoreless through three innings until the fourth when solo home runs from Wark and Oregon’s Elon Butler knotted the game 1-1. Late in the sixth, Oregon’s Rylee McCoy brought home Kaylnn Jones on a ground out to second, which ended up the game-winning RBI in the 2-1.
In last week’s loss to Duke, passed balls and mental lapses on defense doomed A&M. But that was not the case in Thursday’s second game when the Aggies hit four home runs and got everyone involved.Â
Last year, Texas A&M got into the habit of racking up runs quickly, and the trend started again behind an Ariel Kowalewski home run and swings from Wark and KK Dement. Duke responded with an RBI single to make it 3-1. But A&M’s lead got wider after third-inning home runs from Maddie Sauni and Wark, a two-run shot. The Oklahoma State transfer struck again in the fourth when a sacrifice fly gave her a fourth RBI to make it 7-1.Â
Duke chipped away, but the Aggies would respond in kind with either a Mya Perez homer or just being patient rounding the bases. The Aggies had 13 hits and 10 RBIs. Peters started in the circle for the Aggies and had five strikeouts and allowed three runs through six innings before Taylor Pannell came in for relief.Â
The Aggies continue the tournament at 10 p.m. Friday night when they play UC San Diego.Â
