LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – The Junior League of Lubbock has opened its Spring 2026 Community Assistance Grants application cycle to help local nonprofit organizations manage unplanned expenses.
The application period opened Feb. 2 and closes March 6. The Junior League of Lubbock will award $12,500 in Community Assistance Grant funding to eligible organizations across the South Plains.
The Community Assistance Grants program provides financial support when unforeseen costs threaten to strain nonprofit operating budgets or divert resources away from mission-driven work. The League aims to ensure nonprofits can remain resilient, financially stable, and focused on meeting community needs.
Grant eligibility and requirements
Registered nonprofit organizations located in Crosby, Floyd, Garza, Hale, Hockley, Lamb, Lubbock, Lynn, and Terry counties are eligible to apply for grants of up to $5,000. Funds may be used to reimburse previously incurred, unplanned expenses directly supporting an organization’s ability to continue delivering services.
“Nonprofits often operate with limited margins, and unexpected expenses can quickly impact their ability to serve,” said Kathy Wells, Community Impact Vice President for the Junior League of Lubbock. “Our Community Assistance Grants help ensure organizations can keep running strong while staying focused on the people and communities they support.”
Applications will be reviewed by the Junior League of Lubbock’s Community Impact Council, a volunteer-led committee that evaluates requests based on established criteria and overall community impact. Organizations that received Community Assistance Grant funding during the Fall 2025 cycle are not eligible to apply during this round.
Eligible organizations can review full guidelines and submit an application by March 6 at www.jllubbock.com/community/cag.
Touch-a-Truck event scheduled for April
The Junior League of Lubbock also announced its annual Touch-a-Truck event will take place Saturday, April 18, at the South Plains Mall.
Touch-a-Truck is a free, family-friendly community event designed to give children of all ages a hands-on opportunity to explore, touch, and interact with a wide variety of vehicles and equipment. From helicopters and farm equipment to construction vehicles and more, attendees will have the chance to get up close to machines they often see from afar.
Children and families will be able to meet the operators behind the equipment and learn more about what it takes to operate these machines.
“The Touch-a-Truck event is one of our favorite ways to bring the community together for a day of learning, exploration, and fun,” said Kiera Mize, Chair of this year’s Touch-a-Truck committee. “We are proud to offer an inclusive event that welcomes families of all abilities.”
Last year’s Touch-a-Truck welcomed more than 5,750 attendees and featured 125 vehicles, making it one of the Junior League of Lubbock’s largest and most anticipated community events.
The event will begin at 9 a.m. with a horn-free hour from 9 to 10 a.m., designed for children and families who are hearing sensitive. The full event will continue until 2 p.m.
Community members and businesses interested in becoming an event sponsor, vendor, or in providing a vehicle or equipment for Touch-a-Truck can email touchatruck@jllubbock.com .
