AUSTIN, Texas — The Oak Hill Parkway is making strides towards being complete which is great news for those that commute through southwest Austin.Â
A new portion of the eastbound U.S. 290 main lanes opened for traffic on Friday morning. The stretch is between RM 1826 and William Cannon Drive.Â
Drivers heading towards downtown will enter the main lanes just west of RM 1826. Meanwhile, local traffic exiting to RM 1826, Convict Hill Road or State Highway 71 will continue along the eastbound 290 frontage road.Â
With this, we are now one step closer to the Oak Hill Parkway project being complete. The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) told KVUE, the project is on track to wrap up by mid 2026.Â
The project started in 2021 and for people who commute through the area, this has been a long time coming.Â
