A suspect was shot and killed by Dallas SWAT officers during a confrontation in West Dallas on Friday.

The incident occurred as officers attempted to execute a warrant at a residence.

Dallas police reported that SWAT officers were serving a warrant in the 1000 block of Shaw Street just after 10 a.m. when they encountered an armed man.

“As the SWAT team was making entry, an individual with a gun pointed a gun at the officers. Officers discharged their firearm, killing the suspect at that time. Officers immediately rendered aid, trying to help the suspect that was just shot. He ended up dying at the scene,” DPD Police Chief Daniel Comeaux said, per Fox 4 KDFE.

Police confirmed no officers sustained injuries during the confrontation. Authorities have not released details about the nature of the warrant. The investigation continues as detectives gather evidence from the scene.

The Dallas County DA’s office will be conducting its own investigation of the shooting incident, and the Office of Community Police Oversight was notified and responded to the scene.

The Dallas Police Department has not identified the suspect or the officers involved. The standard protocol typically includes placing officers on administrative leave pending the outcomes of investigations.

DPD stated that it would “release updated information in the coming days.”
