LUBBOCK, Texas (LUBBOCK CHAMBER OF COMMERCE) – The Lubbock Chamber of Commerce will host the Salute to Ag Luncheon, presented by South Plains Electric Cooperative, on Tuesday, March 17th from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the FiberMax Center for Discovery at 1121 Canyon Lake Drive.
The Salute to Ag Luncheon takes place on the National Day of Ag and features a keynote from Dr. Tedd Mitchell, Chancellor Emeritus, Texas Tech University System and President Emeritus, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.
“At South Plains Electric Cooperative, we exist to power the communities we serve, and agriculture is at the heart of those communities. As the Presenting Sponsor of Salute to Ag on National Ag Day, we are proud to shine a spotlight on the farmers, ranchers, producers, and agribusiness leaders who fuel our regional economy and way of life. Reliable energy and strong agricultural roots go hand in hand, and we are honored to celebrate the impact agriculture has on Lubbock and the surrounding South Plains,” said Lynn Simmons, Director of Communications at South Plains Electric Cooperative.
Dr. Mitchell’s distinguished career reflects decades of leadership in education, healthcare, and service. He served as chancellor and CEO of the Texas Tech University System and as president of the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, where he was the longest-serving president in the institution’s history. He also previously led the Cooper Clinic as president and CEO and served as a captain in the U.S. Army Reserve.
After more than 15 years of dedicated leadership to the TTU System, Dr. Mitchell announced his retirement in July 2025. On November 19, he transitioned into an advisory role as chancellor and president emeritus, continuing to support the system while spending more time with his family.
Throughout his career, Dr. Mitchell has remained deeply committed to investing in people and equipping them with the tools and skills needed to learn, grow, and serve.
