LUBBOCK, Texas— Ronnie Garcia Jr. was sentenced to 405 months, approximately 33 years, in federal prison on Monday morning for using his cell phone while incarcerated to arrange the delivery of nearly 36 pounds (16,300 grams) of methamphetamine.

Court records also showed that while incarcerated at FCI Big Spring, Garcia utilized a contraband phone to arrange a delivery of 16,300 grams of methamphetamine. Through this phone, Garcia facilitated transactions between Morrison and the source of the methamphetamine on the messaging app called “Signal”. He also contacted Morrison to discuss the collection of the payment owed for the methamphetamine and how that payment was made to the supplier.
Garcia’s codefendant, Gabriela Esquivel, also previously pleaded guilty to Unlawful Use of a Communication Facility and is currently awaiting sentencing.
